AI Diagnostic - People Pillar
Most agencies believe their main AI problem is the tools. They spend months debating which software to pick or which workflow to embed it into. But there is a silent factor that makes or breaks adoption: the humans.
This creates:
hidden usage
fragmented knowledge
internal anxiety
stagnant growth
It doesn’t matter how powerful the AI is. If your team’s literacy and readiness are not aligned, your workflows will collapse. In this video, I break down the four levels of maturity in the People Pillar of AI adoption.
A team transitions through:
avoiding
exploring
adopting
innovating
The Friction Point: The Illusion of Progress
The most dangerous state for an agency is Level Two: Exploring. On the surface, it looks like momentum. People are using AI for drafting, summarizing, and ideation. But underneath, the usage is inconsistent and hidden. Knowledge doesn’t compound because it’s stuck at the individual level. You feel busy with AI, but you don’t feel better because of it.
The Foundation Shift: Moving from Capability to Culture
To reach the highest level, AI must stop being a tool people use and start being the thing they redesign work around. This requires a fundamental shift in leadership. You must move past simply granting permission to setting an expectation of innovation. When your team proactively seeks to remove friction and redesign services, AI transitions from a productivity hack to a strategic asset.
The Moral of the Story for Agency Owners
Don’t blame the tools for a people problem. Don’t let exploration become a permanent plateau. Don’t wait for permission to rethink your entire service design.
If you want AI to unlock real performance, you must prioritize human literacy over software features. This is the real work of AI Foundations: Systems and People in Agencies.
